Compare Mode for Charts

You can now open any chart in Compare mode to put multiple filter sets next to each other on a single visualization. Click the kebab menu (⋮) on a supported chart and choose Compare to get started.

How it works

• Add filter sets — start with the chart's current filters, then add up to four more independent filter sets. Each set has its own color, an editable name, and its own filter selections.
• Color-coded pills — each set gets a colored pill (sky / emerald / amber / violet / rose) so you can tell them apart at a glance. Names you type into the pill show up in the legend, hover tooltips, and panel titles.
• Shareable URLs — set names, filter selections, and visual options all live in the URL, so you can copy the link and send a comparison to a colleague.

What each chart type does

Different chart types compare differently because the right view depends on what the chart is showing:

• Line charts — overlay each set as its own line with a unique color and dash style. Up to 5 sets. Inline data labels are color-matched per set, and the y-axis scales to your actual data (so enrollment counts, percentages, and other measures all show correctly).
• Bar charts — show grouped bars per category, one bar per filter set. Up to 5 sets. When exactly two sets are active, you also get a Diff bar in each group (orange = Set 2 higher, red = Set 2 lower) so the gap is visible at a glance. Adding a third set automatically hides the Diff since a pairwise difference no longer applies.
• Stacked charts — each filter set becomes its own stacked column inside each x-axis bucket, so you can see how the category mix shifts between sets. Up to 5 sets.
• Scatter plots — each set gets its own color and its own marker shape (circle, square, diamond, triangle, ×) so overlapping points are still distinguishable. Up to 4 sets.
• Histograms — overlay translucent bars when you have 2 sets, then automatically switch to smooth probability density lines at 3+ sets. The y-axis is always normalized to Probability (%) so distributions with different sample sizes can be compared fairly.
• Pie charts — side-by-side normalized pies for two sets.
• Heatmaps (placement movement) — limited to 2 sets, but you get a three-panel layout: Filter Set 1, Filter Set 2, and a Difference panel. Cells are normalized to percent of total students in each set, and the Difference panel shows the percentage-point gap with a diverging red/blue color scale — perfect for comparing schools of different sizes. The BOY/MOY · BOY/EOY · MOY/EOY toggle applies to all three panels at once.

Things to know

• Compare mode is opt-in per chart — your normal dashboard view is unchanged until you open the Compare modal.
• Tables and tile cards don't have a Compare option; their data is already easy to scan side-by-side in their normal views.
• For line and stacked charts, you can also adjust the data-label vertical offset per set if labels overlap on dense charts.

Graph Explanations

Charts now have an About this Graph option in the kebab menu. Each explanation describes what the chart shows, how the data is calculated, and which filters are intentionally excluded, so anyone viewing the dashboard can understand exactly what they're looking at.

Cross-Year Data Fallback

IAR and EL dashboards now automatically detect when current school year data isn't available yet and fall back to showing the previous year's results for your current students. A banner at the top of the page indicates which year's data is being displayed.

Improvements

• Chart image downloads now include the chart title, active filters, page name, and date in the exported image at 2x resolution for sharper output
• All Schools view — select charts (attendance by school, grades by school, on-track by school) can now show data across all schools regardless of the active school filter (district level opt in/opt out).

Bug Fixes

• Fixed the x-axis on attendance line charts rendering out of order
• Fixed student data appearing in district-level and teacher-level views where it shouldn't
• Fixed the schools filter not auto-selecting when only one school option is available
• Fixed the y-axis on the Enrollment Over Time chart in compare mode collapsing to 0–100 instead of scaling to actual enrollment
• Tiles' "Download Image" menu item now correctly reads Download CSV (it was always exporting CSV, just labeled wrong)

What's New

Data Toggles on Charts

Some charts now have toggle buttons in the upper-right corner to switch what data is shown — no need to reload the page.

• Growth Charts — switch between Typical Growth and Stretch Growth
• Placement Movement — switch between BOY/MOY, BOY/EOY, and MOY/EOY comparisons (defaults to the most recent available)

New Attendance Chart

• Last 5 Weeks by Grade — see recent weekly attendance with all grades side-by-side

Chart Data View

When you click a chart to drill down, you can now switch between two views:

• Chart Data — summary-level data matching the chart, ready to download as CSV
• Student Data — individual student rows (same as before)

Available across all dashboard areas including Attendance, Demographics, Chronic Absenteeism, On-Track, BRM, NWEA, IAR, and i-Ready.

Improved Drilldowns

• Growth charts now show per-student growth details including both typical and stretch progress
• Placement movement drilldowns now show all three windows (BOY, MOY, EOY) and all movement comparisons in one view

Redesigned Pages

File Center

Completely redesigned as a file explorer with a folder tree sidebar, file type icons, search, sortable columns, multi-select, and bulk download. You can now download entire folders as zip files.

Report Center

Updated layout with category labels, status badges, and a cleaner report-running experience. The student count indicator now changes color to help manage large selections.

Table Improvements

• Column sorting — click any column header to sort. Numbers, dates, and text are sorted correctly.
• Better fit — tables automatically size to fill available space
• Search — filter across all columns in drilldown views
• Row counts — see "Showing 1–15 of 245" in the footer
• Updated styling to match the app's green color scheme

Bug Fixes

• Fixed placement movement charts sometimes showing incorrect labels
• Fixed session timeout logging you out after 15 minutes even when actively using the app — the session now stays active while you're working
• Fixed some chart colors defaulting to grey
• Fixed a broken drilldown link on the chronic absenteeism overview

Overview

This release marks the baseline for Version 3 of the dashboard. While the core of the application remains the same, the underlying technology stack has been completely rebuilt, enabling faster performance, greater scalability, and new possibilities for future features.

Highlights
